Support surfaces and foam mattresses

A support surface is a pressure-reducing device, such as a foam mattress, that reduces the chance of pressure ulcer formation in at risk patients. Support surfaces such as foam mattresses redistribute pressure more evenly, thereby reducing pressure under areas of the body most susceptible to breakdown like the heels or the sacral area.

Foam mattresses are used as part of a pressure ulcer management program to reduce the incidence of pressure ulcers and enhance patient comfort.

Foam mattresses and other support surfaces are used by nurses, including wound care specialists in the care of at risk residents or patients. The support surfaces manufactured by Casco are used in long term care facilities, hospitals, and/or home care.
